Finally got everything squared away in the pen and got my piglets for the season. Ten plus a free runt for a total of eleven. Looking happy, found water and feed right away. gonna raise them on deep straw and use the straw to bed and feed my strawberries during the growing season.

I think its 24x24, I usually don't finish out more than 12 in it, 16 if i'm pulling roasters out early. I went down about 30 inches to prevent dig outs, hog panels on the sides with a electric fence to keep the hogs off the fence. I put the panels on upside down thinking they would be stiff enough not to put on a top board, did not work out that way. If doing over I would put the panels on right side down.

I use two, two hole feeders. Plenty of feed for them.
Not a bad system for small size operation. The water system takes some time daily, but time spent with the pigs/hogs is good management. i would like to put up a Hoop building and raise year round, and on pasture.
Awesome setup Farmer, I really like that. I will probably copy your design in a few years when I rebuild my pen. Putting a roof on will make it more expensive but I could see it being well worth it I the end. Constant shade will mean they will drink less water and the wallow wont dry up. Lot less stress from the heat on the animal too. I appreciate you taking the time to share, Karma to you sir!

My last pen did not have a roof, we get some Hurricane rain and the pen would completely fill with water. Yes pigs can swim and would have to until I would get the pen drained. That and shade are worth the cost. I wish I had the for-site to build a loading ally and ramp. I would build it so the hogs could go threw it and back into the pen, till the day the trailer is backed up to it, surprise.

Moved the first two hogs to the butcher shop today. Smaller than I would have liked, but I need meat for the farmers market I attend. I should be able to sell these in the month I have left of the market. Never trust a farmer with a free watermelon, you might end up in the trailer heading to the butcher shop.
