These are my new cages. Sorry they don't look a like, but all the wood is recycled out of construction dumpster's from a development not far from home. I bought the hardware cloth an the outlets for the lights. The rest is recycle.
Here they are all opened up, one thing I've learned so far is I like access to clean my cages, my original one, doesn't have so many doors but I wish it did. Like I said these too look similar, but there different, the materials pretty much dictate how I'm going to build them. An they come complete with POOP trays, those are heating and a/c ducting I cut an flattened out.
Even found some stainless strapping used to hold up water proofing material, looks pretty good on this one. I'm going to winter the birds in the garage. An eventuall paint an move these out side. But these are done for the time being.

Ok, here they are. I know they look similar but they are miles apart, more or less the materials I find dictate the build. I'm just trying to make it all look good in the end. I'm still waiting for some eggs from either of my birds, chicken/quail, it should be any freaking day now ladies.
Now I have some things yet to build a Brooder for one, which more or less just be a wooden box with a hardware cloth top. But the wood shop in my garage is closing for the year. It's time to go hunting an trapping.
Early spring plans are to get my new incubator, and start raising some more quail. I have courtnix, but I'm iffy about breeding them, so I'm going to save my girls an butcher my males. Hopefully I'll be able to still try breeding my own by late spring. But the plan is to get some Texas A&M's an some Snow Flake BoB's. I love the markings on the Snow Flake's. In the end the entire plan is relying, on our ability to successfully incubate eggs.
The chickens now belong to the wife, there all hers, an they freaking eat better than me. Squash, pumpkins, cabbage, lettuce, they get special treats all the time, all I get is the bill, (figures). But it's all good . In the end it's all about keeping the ladies happy, both Momma and the birds.
