Get yourself a couple peeled whole cloves of garlic. About a week before your first frost, plant one clove about 2.5” deep in good soil and then space them out about 6-8 inches in between plants. In the late spring your garlic will start shooting up. You can harvest them once the leaves look brown. Nothing like home grown garlic!
I am in northern ontario and planted mine about two weeks ago. In addition to what JG said, ensure the individual bulbs are planted with the coarse root side down. This is especially important with the hard neck garlic breeds. Love my garlic!!!
