Good morning fellow swampers I am interested in hearing from you on the various animals to use for lamp oil in terms of rendered fat I have heard that using beaver fat, coon fat and bear fat and countless others can be used for this. I just wanted to ask a few questions like which ones smoke less when used as lantern fuel? Once the fat has been rendered into oil does the oil go from liquid to a solid (lard like texture) in colder room temp ? Which animal rendered fat is best for lamp oil coon, beaver, bear or others? thanks

If your looking for a fat that will be liquid, or at least semi liquid at room temperature try duck fat. Although I would much rather cook with rendered duck fat than burn it. I would imagine any fat would work fine though. Sounds like its time to get rendering some fat and let us know how it goes.
